The ICORE matches combine elements of IPSC, the Bianchi Cup, and the Steel Challenge into matches exclusively for revolvers. Scoring is based on total time (no hit factors). Poor hits or misses simply add time to a shooters score. Compared to a USPSA match, ICORE scoring focuses more on accurace than speed with stronger penalties for non-Alpha hits.

Safety Class Requirement

If you already hold a current classification (other than Novice or Unclassified) via USPSA, IPSC, IDPA, NRA Action Pistol or ICORE, you are NOT required to take our PSSC (Practical Shooting Starter Course). All other shooters that are interested in shooting any Practical Pistol event at Rio Salado, must attend the four-hour class to shoot. The class is held every Monday evening from 5-9pm and the 4th Saturday from 5-9pm.
For more information, visit www.rsscaz.com/divisions/practical-pistol/pssc
To register for a PSSC class, search "Rio Salado PSSC" under matches on Practiscore.com.

New Shooter Information

Question: What equipment do I need?

Answer:Minimum equipment is a revolver of .32 magnum caliber or larger (.38 Special is most common), a holster which holds the firearm securely and covers the trigger guard, and a belt strong enough to carry the revolver (no cloth holsters) and ammunition in a safe manner. All participants and spectators must wear eye and ear protection when shooting is in progress. Other useful equipment is a minimum of five speed loaders and pouches or moon clips and moon clip holders to carry them. Generally, 150 rounds are sufficient to complete all courses of fire. This allows for make up shots if desired.

Question: What happens at monthly AZ Rocks ICORE match?

Answer:The day begins with the Match Directors and three or four others arriving at 7:00AM or before to set up. The Stat Shack window (between Bay 2&3) will usually open ½ hour before the match begins. Shooters will then check in, pay and receive a “place holder” card to use on each stage to determine shooting order. Scores are entered on the ipad and the cards for a take home record. The match starts with a brief shooter meeting in front of the Stat Shack. The shooters’ meeting starts with a brief discussion of events, news, or club business. The Match Directors then describes the courses of fire, starting positions and other pertinent information. The shooters then divide up into 4 groups (squads) of roughly 8 to 10 shooters, with each squad starting at a different stage (course of fire). After your group shoots your first stage, they should move as a group to another stage of their choice. For your first time at a match, identify yourself to Tom Clyde, Match Director. He will stay with you for the entire match. He will guide you thru the match, answer any questions and review common practices at a Rio Salado match. Do not take the clock or run the ipad until you have shot a few matches.
Our range is a cold range, which means no loaded guns, until someone tells you to load your gun on the course of fire. So, don’t bring a loaded gun. When you get to the range to sign up, and it’s your first time you may put on your belt, holster and ammo, at your vehicle, BUT NOT YOUR FIREARM. Keep your firearm in your range bag and proceed to one of the safe areas. The safe areas are between Bay 1 & 2 and Bay 3 & 4. Only your firearm may be handled at the safe areas. You may remove it from your bag and do a few practice draws and sight pictures and put it in your holster on your belt.
